Now, let’s try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me a good thing?” said Socrates. “Umm, No” answered the man softly. “So, you want to tell me something bad about my friend which you’re not certain it’s true. You failed the first two test but you may still pass the test if you pass the final filter, the filter of usefulness. Is what you want to tell me going to be useful to me?” “No, not really.” replied the man shamefully. “Well, if what you want to tell me is neither true, nor good or even useful, why waste your time to tell it to me at all. ” concluded Socrates. Although there is nothing wrong with talking about other people, it is what we talk about them that really matters. It is so easy to fall into a pattern of unconscious criticism, doubt and misunderstanding while involving oneself in a conversation about a third person. This short story of the great Greek philosopher Socrates could help us in making a better judgment about the information that we consume every day. The triple filter test can act as a very useful tool for blocking all the information that is not important to our lives.

एक बढ़ाई (Carpenter) शाम को अपनी दुकान बंद कर घर चला गया। जब वह चला गया, तो एक ज़हरीला सांप दुकान के अंदर घुस गया। सांप भूखा था। इस आशा में की कुछ खाने को मिल जाए, वह इधर उधर रेंगने लगा। इसी बीच वो एक कुल्हाड़ी से टकरा गया और थोड़ा सा चोटिल हो गया। उसे गुस्सा आ गया और बदला लेने के लिए उसने कुल्हाड़ी को डंक मार दिया। सांप का डंक उस धातु की कुल्हाड़ी का क्या बिगाड़ लेगा? उल्टा सांप के मुंह से ही खून निकलने लग गया। गुस्से और अहंकार से वो सांप पागल हो गया और उस कुल्हाड़ी को मारने के लिए हर संभव कोशिश करने लगा। उसको बहुत दर्द हो रहा था। फिर भी वो उस कुल्हाड़ी के चारो और लिपट गया। फिर क्या हुआ होगा, आप अच्छी तरह से जानते हैं। अगले दिन जब कारपेंटर ने दरवाजा खोला, तो देखा की कुल्हाड़ी के लिपटा हुआ सांप मारा पड़ा था। दोस्तों यह सांप किसी ओर की गलती से नहीं मरा हैं। उसकी ये हालत खुद की अकड़ और गुस्से के कारण हुई हैं। इसी प्रकार हमें भी जब गुस्सा आता हैं तो हम दुसरो को नुकसान पहुंचने का काम करते हैं। लेकिन कुछ समय बीतने के बाद हमे ये अहसास होता हैं कि हमने अपने को दुसरो से और ज्यादा नुकसान पंहुचा दिया हैं।
